I have recently realized I have a few products that I’m not only in love with, but I cannot imagine my life without them at this point. These are seriously “what did I do without these items in my life” type products. They have enriched my life
Peanut Butter & Jelly
I am 31 years old and have just discovered the magical pairing of peanut butter and jelly. More specifically a love of jelly. Growing up I never liked jelly because of the texture and sweetness so I missed the daily pbjs for lunch. Recently Marley brought in fresh baked bread she made herself and St. Dalfor blueberry jelly. The jelly contains tiny blueberries, so I thought I would give it a try since what I thought I didn’t like about jelly was the texture. I paired it with Miyoko’s vegan butter and my taste buds were in heaven. For months I couldn’t get that jelly out of my head. I bought a jar of my own and decided to try it with peanut butter. I am hooked! I have at least one piece of toast with jelly and vegan butter or peanut butter everyday. Who knew?
Oh She Glows
Oh She Glows is a vegan food blog run by Angela Liddon and she also has two cookbooks. For years I have been going to ohsheglows.com for recipes and have a few tried and true favorites. After moving towards a more vegan diet, I decided I wanted to check out her cookbooks. I was lucky enough to receive both of her cookbooks, the Oh She Glows Cookbook and Oh She Glows Every Day, for Christmas. I have been obsessed with trying out all of her recipes. This month I’ve decided to start from the beginning and cook my way through the book. This mornings recipe was Effortless Vegan Overnight Oats and Ultimate Nutty Granola from the Oh She Glows Cookbook. I am going to try to do a couple of recipes a week and the overnight oats had the granola listed as an additional topping. I absolutely love the granola (though I overcooked it a bit). I am not a huge oatmeal fan because of the texture, but I didn’t mind this oatmeal. Probably because I topped it with agave syrup, fresh berries, and granola. I really enjoyed the flavor of the oatmeal. Last night when I was prepping everything our house smelled like Christmas because of all the spices that went into the two dishes. I highly recommend checking out the Oh She Glows cookbooks even if you eat meat. Every dish we have tried has been delicious.
Lively Bras and Calvin Klein Undies
Since high school I have been a strict Victoria’s Secret bra and underwear girl. I have more panties than I know what to do with because of their once 5 for $20 and then 5 for $25 Pink panties. Over the last year and a half I have tried to get rid of the older, worn out ones, and replace them with my new favorite Calvin Klein seamless panties. I have also gotten rid of a lot of my thongs because I found I was starting to dread the idea of putting one on. It feels great to be excited about panties again and know I will be comfortable all day no matter what I am doing.
I have realized that my style is more about comfort than being super trendy. I am obsessed with sweatshirts and basic sweaters during the winter and a nice tee during the summer. The comfort doesn’t stop on my outer layers. After growing tired of the underwires, gappage, and tight bands from all of my Victoria’s Secret bras I decided to switch over to bralettes. I discovered Lively through Instagram, read some reviews, and decided I would give them a go. I ordered the mesh trim bralette and straight up bralette. These bras offer serious comfort and I don’t feel the overwhelming need to rip it off my body the second I get home. They are well made, the fabric is super soft, and to top it off they are really pretty. Best of all they offer a great deal if you buy multiple bras at once. I don’t see myself going back to a traditional bra anytime soon.
Farmacy – Green Clean Makeup Meltaway Cleansing Balm
I have been hearing beauty YouTubers rave about cleansing balms for years. I received a sample of Farmacy’s cleansing balm in my monthly Sephora Play box and now I understand what all the hype is about. This stuff is a game changer, especially if you like to sport a cat eye with tons of black mascara. You only need a tiny amount and the cream turns into an oil-like substance that takes off every speck of makeup. I follow up with my trusty Murad Clarifying Cleaner. If only I had this when I was in high school. Maybe I wouldn’t have fallen asleep with my eye makeup on and ruined so many pillowcases. C’est la vie.
Reusable Produce Bags
I am becoming more aware of the waste I make as each day passes. I get really upset when I am walking around or driving and I see trash on the ground or in the trees. There is currently plastic stuck in a tree outside our apartment window and it is driving me insane. I think it’s important that everyone pay attention to the waste they create – and how they get rid of it. We have used reusable grocery bags for years and recently a friend told me about reusable produce bags. I immediately ordered a set on Amazon. I got this set of nine for under $13! They are now used every week instead of grabbing those annoying little green bags from the grocer. The one drawback is finding an alternative way to store the produce once home. A lot of produce tends to fall limp if placed in the refrigerator without protection. I have started to place items like herbs, asparagus, and kale in cups of water on the counter. If you have any ideas on how to store produce without plastic, then please let me know in the comments.
Listen, I know it’s not anyone’s favorite thing to talk about, but it’s something that happens to me (and billions of other women) every month. I was always skeptical of menstrual cups because the idea of pulling something out of myself filled with blood and having to dump and clean it put me off. For years friends have recommended menstrual cups, but I could never bring myself to try them. Finally when I started paying attention to the amount of waste tampons were creating I started to think about trying out the Diva Cup. I have been using it since last June and I will never go back to tampons. Within the first couple of months I was recommending it to all of my friends and family. It has made such a positive impact on my life. I never worry about leakage or being out in public and needing a tampon ASAP. You can keep the Diva Cup in for up to 12 hours so I change it every morning and right before I go to bed. Seriously guys, this thing is incredible. It has also saved me a ton of money. I used Tampax Pearl user for years and those puppies (or any other tampon brand) aren’t cheap. The Diva Cup is $25 on Amazon and I have saved almost $100 not buying tampons. Do yourself a favor and switch to the cup, y’all.
